Valentine’s Day : Spreading the Love
Here at The EBA HQ, we have been preparing a little something for the families currently on the units.
Valentine’s Day doesn’t need to be just for the couples, we like to spread the love to everyone, making sure that families know they are never alone, no matter where they are on their babies’ neonatal journey.
We won’t reveal just yet what special treats we have instore but the photo shows a sneak peek of what will be hand-delivered by Cupid, this coming Valentine’s Day. 💘
Did you know that Valentine’s Day is thought to have originated from a Roman Festival with the first Valentine’s Day being held way back in the year 496!
The day gets its name from a famous saint, but there are multiple stories of who he was.
The most common belief is that St Valentine was a priest from Rome in the third century AD.
The emperor at the time, Claudius II had banned marriage because he thought men who were married would make terrible soldiers.
Valentine didn’t agree and he decided to arrange marriages in secret!
When the emperor found out, he threw Valentine into jail and sentenced him to death.
Whilst in jail, Valentine fell in love with the jailer’s daughter and when he was taken to be killed on the 14th of February, he sent her a love letter signed “From your Valentine”.
St Valentine has been remembered ever since with the 14th February becoming the special day for people to express their feelings of love to one another.
Your donations enable us to provide little touches of love, which really makes all the difference.
Throughout the year we like to reach out to families on the units with little surprises, with many becoming invaluable souvenirs.
For a lot of us at The EBA, we still have these gifts, such as little celebration cards with our babies’ footprints, stored away in memory boxes.
It’s these touches that provide huge emotional support in some of the darkest of times and that a leave lasting effect of love years down the line.
The EBA is run 100% on volunteers who provide crucial support to the families and staff on the units. Without your support, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do, so thank you!
